The picturesque town of Punta Islita is only a kilometer away from the entrance of the land. Through conscientious community involvement, residents of the area have built a lovely school, renovated the church, and dedicated a museum to local artists.

Other local attractions include the beaches of Camaronal, Punta Islita, Playa Corozalito, and Bejuco, which are renowned for their nesting turtle viewing and conservation. Camaronal provides some of the best surfing in Costa Rica.

Local Flora and Fauna

Surrounding land serves as a natural habitat to a large variety of animals, including armadillos, white-tailed deer, pacas, and coatis. The area is also home to the white-faced or capuchin monkey as well as the howler monkey.

Through the efforts of the Macaw Recovery Network (Ara Project), scarlet macaws have recently been reintroduced to the area, where they were previously locally extinct. Aside from these, there is an abundance of butterflies and other species of birds such as parrots and hummingbirds.

Much of the terrain is second-growth dry forest with species such as large Guanacaste and balsa trees. The area is also rich in teak, avocado, mango, and different kinds of orchids.

Climate

On the Nicoya Peninsula, you can expect brilliant sunshine every day from mid-December until April. The green season then lasts from May to August, typically followed by a short rainy season peaking in September and October.
